Hello, new to laser work. I’ve got the ortur LM3. Using light burn 1.3.01.
Set up my key tag project, used a circle of 50mm then a bisecting rectangle, then made a Boolean intersection. Added a 8mm circle. Preview looks fine.
I have used the machine settings tab and calibrated x and y axis and adjusted for inaccuracy.
It’s interesting in the several image files I’ve burned come out with no distortion. Just these lines drawn in light burn.
Looks like backlash to me. I would guess the pinion gear on the Y axis is loose. Make sure the grub screw is well secured against the flat portion of the stepper shaft. There is likely two grub screws so make sure they’re both properly secured.
I’d suggest an overall mechanical review while you’re there. Check the X axis pinon gear as well. Check belt tension. Make sure the roller wheels are moving smoothly along the rails but with no gap between rail and wheel.
Thanks I’ll check that out. Seems interesting tho that the images I burned didn’t distort… although they did print in raster, left and right bottom to top, so maybe less of a problem than running multiple axis simultaneously. /?
Backlash will only really be visible during the change in direction. The reason I suspect Y axis is because your scanning operations look fine. I assume that was done along the X-axis.
Occasionally the engrave head is loose on the gantry. When the laser is off, grab the module near the lens and wiggle it. There are usually eccentric cams on at least one wheel to allow you to get the wheels to gently clamp into the correct part of the rail.
Thanks for the clear pictures. I feel that you’re really close to sorting this.
Thank you very much for the quick response on this issue. Turns out where the left side y-axis belt connects to the carriage had come out of its slot (or I failed to put it in initially). Reattached it and got good shapes and all is well. Thank you again.
