I just got the Sculpfun iCube Pro Max 10W. I am using the official iPhone app (haven’t tried other software yet).
When I want to outline or preview where the laser will engrave, this low power preview laser is leaving small burns behind. It makes it difficult to measure out with precision as I don’t want my subject to have these unintentional marks until I do the actual carve.
Is this a well known issue? Or simply me doing something wrong?
According to my app the preview laser is at the smallest and weakest setting, but it still leaves marks.
I have included two images of where this “preview” laser can be activated. I mainly use it as “box selection” to see if the carve is inside the area I want to carve on.
That’s the issue The official app is a TOY, nothing else. You don’t have much control of the laser and the results are bad. Do NOT use it. As you found the way to this forum, you already know LB and you definitely should use that. With LB, you can set the framing power to 0.5% or whatever you like. No chance when using the app.

Thanks! I was afraid that this was a simple software “bug” in the app. I use it for simple stuff (logos and such) since I just got started. No doubt I will invest in Lightburn at some point. But other than the preview laser marks, the app served me fine for my first project with a great result and it is nice not to have to chug a laptop around (which I actually do not have).
I wrote Sculpfun about this and they asked for a video of it, which I sent them. I can hope that they simply are able to update the app to be able to set the power lower on the preview / box selection.
Update: So SculpFun replied back (again within 24 hours which I am happy about) and told me that they see the issue and that the app will be updated. This could of course take some time. They will send me a small appreciation gift of 10 wood pieces. Their support is very smooth, and hopefully they will also fix the issue
Yes, the support they have is superior to any company I have experienced so far. They currently mostly concentrate on the new G9 device, but afterward, they might tackle the app as well.
