Proper settings to engrave image

I’m trying to find the right settings to engrave this image on my diode laser with the latest version of lightburn.

Before switching to light burn to control my diode laser, I was using a very generic laser control software called “laser engrave”.

With that software, I was able to get precisely what I was looking for as shown on the attached photo

I can’t find the right settings to produce the same with the newly installed light burn software.

One thing that seems to be an issue is that I cannot get the engraving speed to a high enough level.

I was expecting light burn to do this job without any trouble, please advise as to what I am doing wrong.
Thank you,
Chuck.

The scan lines are pretty clear… Generally you want the scan lines to just touch.

Lightburn, set to the same setting should do the same job… There isn’t anything special that Lightburn does what you tell it, run at a certain speed and adjust power as specified. It’s hard to understand that the speed/power on one is not the same as the other.

Something is different…

This is a very good video on photograph reproduction that explains most of the issues. Works for any laser…

Good luck

Thanks for your reply Jack.

I cannot seem to get the right settings to engrave this image.

I have watch the video you sent, but I still can’t get the right settings.

Could you or anyone else out there send me a photo showing the various settings that I need to reproduce this as a rastered image.

So far, I am very impressed with lightburn, but I cannot figure out how to do this image.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Chuck.

If you want a lighter colored engraving, you may just want to change the speed/power settings. There are lots of settings and I can’t tell you which ones may be right without knowing current settings, seeing a picture of what you feel is wrong and knowing which way you would like to go with your work.

If you want a darker image and more contrast, treating the board with a baking soda and water solution can help that. It will however make it a necessity to start again with speed and power settings because it’s very effective at darkening the dark parts without removing much material.

Thanks for your input John,

I’m trying to raster (PWM) engrave this image. .

This is the best I can do.

On the same laser engraving machine, using a different software, I was able to raster engrave this image via PWM.

So I’m trying to determine how to do the same PWM engraving using lightburn.

Thanks,
Chuck
