Pulling .RD file from the Ruida Controller

Following on from this closed topic:

I am trying to recover a RD file from my Ruida controller (RD6442G-SH) on my Omtech laser.
When i copy to “copy to Udisk” i just get a copy failed message.
Tried new and old smaller USB sticks formatted to various different formats, but none work.
Has anyone found a way to do this?

Thank you.

Did you try plugging the usb directly into the controller. Usually they have a short cable from the controller usb to the case… bypass this and see if it’s any better…

Not many suggestions as there aren’t many options.

Good luck

Not at my computer, but maybe from within LightBurn? I know you can view and delete files from the files window I don’t know if other operations are allowed.

As far as I know the only way to get an RD file out of the machine is via the machines console. Using the copy to usb option.

Me too, tried connect a laptop directly , but it wont see it as any drive.
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

What specific USB drives did you try and how exactly where they formatted? Are you able to read from the drives using the controller?

Ive tried probably 5 ot 6 different USB drives ranging from 1Gb to 32Gb
Tried formatting them as FAT, FAT32, and NTFS. None work.

and yes, the controller will read files from all of them.

Some additional questions:

  1. Are the files on the controller known good working files?
  2. What method are you using to format the drives?
  3. Do you have a computer connected to the PC port on the controller? If so, try disconnecting and power cycling the controller. Does that change the behavior with the udisk port?

I ran into the same problem with my previous Omtech laser (same Ruida controller) and neither I nor Omtech could come up with a solution. At one point they were going to replace the controller and display but quickly decided against it. The final answer was (to me anyway) that their technicians didn’t know why the “Copy to Udisk” wasn’t working and offered me a partial refund, which I accepted. This feature works fine on my current laser, a ZF-2028-60E, which has a KT332N controller. I found I could live without “Copy to Udisk” on my old laser and have not used it (even though I can) on my current one. Such is life.

Just a little update on this.
I’ve tried a whole bunch of USB memory sticks of various sizes and format without sucess. But at the bottom of my draw i found a really old 512Mb nasty looking chinese USB stick i hadnt tried (picture below).
I formatted it to FAT32 in my computer then tried it in the laser again and BINGO! “copy sucessful”!
So maybe we need to use a USB drive under 1Gb?

It “almost” makes me wish I still had my MF1220-50 so that I could try it out. Almost.
