Putting a 2D barcode on stainless steel

I need to laser a readable 2D barcode on stainless steel parts. I have tried every trick I have found online without any luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? Using a 60w MAPO laser. Thank you in advance!

What problems are you facing? Can you post an example?

These are a few attempts. A scanner will not read these directly off the stainless. Looking for suggestions on a work around. Thank you

A material test to dial in your dark marks first; on my 20W MOPA, I use 100% power, 200ns pulse width, 67 kHz, 1800 mm/s, 0.0085 interval as a starting point for QR codes.

Make sure it’s dark on light, like the middle picture. I know for QR codes specifically, some scanners can’t handle “inverted” codes at all.

The white in the last picture looks like a good “base coat”. I suspect that leaving the gaps unmarked at all may lead to reflection problems for the reader. Do any of these scan correctly with a phone? depending on the exact nature of the scanner, the curved surface may also be problematic for similar reasons.
