Quick Nest Options

Quick Nest is a great option to reduce time and to save costs on materials. However, It does not always work. I read in another post they are still working on this tool, however, I wanted to share how some of these setting worked and how it is not working in a way I thought. Then again I may be doing something wrong or have a setting not set or set that will give me the results I wanted.

Background: I needed to different easels cut out and I have a 300mm square I wanted to use.

When I use the quick Nest tool I get this:

Now I will admit I think it was nice that the tool saw my easels were too big for my project size and so it created a new piece. This was a handy feature I did not know was baked into the tool. So I resized my easels to fit and used the tool again with this result:

Problem with this option is I am not maximizing my space. What I wanted was something more like this:

This is achieved by simply rotating Items. I do this often and was hoping that this tool would have either done it for me OR I use the tool again to get a different layout (which did not work) to use the layout I found I wanted.

I am sharing this issues I have had as a feedback to help make the tool better as well as find out if I am doing something wrong that I am not getting the result I was expecting.

You can toggle Lock Objects for Rotation

I thought in one of the pictures I uploaded I did have that toggle on and another one where it is off. However, I did attempt to toggle each of the 3 settings on and off with different combinations and would not get the expected result. I would only get the result where Lightburn did fit things into the square but it generated a lot of wasted space and the result I wanted was different. I hope that makes sense.

Quick Nest uses the bounding boxes of the shapes to nest parts - True Nesting is likely coming in 2.2.
