My Raycus fiber laser stopped working. Actually, I do not think it ever worked correctly. I was never able to engrave metal with it.
I have been using it to engrave water bottles for a few months. I noticed that the engraving was getting lighter (not removing all the paint) after an hour or so of use. Suddenly, it would no longer fire. The red framing function still works.
I checked the power supplies. Everything appears ok except the 24V power supply fan does not spin. A red LED comes on when the laser should be firing. I tried to engrave coins but this function does not work. Meaning, it does not engrave the coin. Before, attempting to engrave metal only made the metal hot. It would not engrave then.
I purchased a Mr. Carve S4 20W. I cannot get this one to work either. The same issue. The framing (red laser) works fine but no engraving. The galvo head appears to be working fine.
I am having a hard time believing its both laser. I have LightBurn installed on my laptop and a desktop. Both with the same issue. Any thoughts?
I purchased a Monport 50w laser. Everything worked fine initially, but over time, after 3 hours of use, the laser performance began to degrade. It would engrave steel just fine at first. But after a while, it would no longer engrave at the same intensity. I can sometimes get better performance if I would power down the unit for several minutes.
I contacted Monport, and they sent a troubleshooting guide. My question is, is this normal? Does anyone have performance issues with their laser? The laser intensity would deminish even if it was not engraving. Meaning, if the switch is on and the fans are running for an hour (for example), I would get the same lowered performance as if it has been engraving for the same amount of time. My history with Raycus lasers has made me hesitant about using them outside the 30-day return window. My other laser, which is a JPT laser, runs strong for a 20w laser.
Here is the troubleshooting guide.
The issue may stem from one or more of the following:
Power Supply Issue: The laser’s power supply may have malfunctioned, leading to the engraving laser not firing.
Overheating or Usage Overload: If the machine was used for extended periods, components may have overheated or shut down as a safety measure.
Laser Source Fault: The fiber laser source might have failed, resulting in no laser output for engraving.
Signal or Connection Issue: A loose or damaged cable could disrupt the signal between the controller and the laser source.
Software Configuration: There could be an error in the software settings, such as the power or frequency being set too low.
Solution
Check Power Supply: Ensure the machine is properly connected to a stable power source and that the power supply for the laser source is functioning correctly.
Inspect Cables: Check all connections between the laser source, controller, and power supply. Ensure no cables are loose, damaged, or disconnected.
Verify Software Settings: In your laser software, ensure the engraving settings (power, speed, and frequency) are appropriate. Test with the same settings you used for the first coin.
Restart the Machine: Turn off the machine, wait a few minutes, and restart it to reset any potential system glitches.
Run a Test: Use the machine’s test feature (if available) to see if the laser fires on a different material or project.
Inspect the Laser Source: If none of the above resolves the issue, the problem might lie with the fiber laser source itself. This would require professional inspection or replacement.
