Really overwhelmed, can anyone help?

sorry meant post # 10

Ok, with the help of you folks, I’ve learned a TON in the past few days. I’m about to try my 1st (full) photo tonight. I’ve done some area testing and had some limited success. I’ve searched the forum for advice on settings and I’m finding a very broad range. Can someone recommend a good starting point for speed/power/stepover distance? I’m trying to give myself a better chance instead of waiting a couple hours to see that it’s not good. I have a 7w jtech on a onefinity machine. About how long should an average 8 x 10 photo take to engrave on wood? I’m not going to get into using ImagR or anything yet, just whatever I can do within Lightburn. TIA

I recommend that you crop a small portion of the photo and run tests with that. It wallsave a ton of time and material. I typically grab an area around the eyes and hair. That gives you a good idea of how the rest of the image will turn out.

The Lightburn preview will give you a good approximation of how long the engrave will take.

I just don’t know what range I should be in. 100 in/min @ 60%…or 50 in/min @ 30%…etc. 20 in/min? Where should I start from?

No one can tell you what settings will work with your machine, in your location, on your wood. The dither mode, altitude, temperature, humidity all make a difference as well as the wood you’re using. For a generic setting I would probobly start around 3,000 mm/min @ 75% and adjust from there.
