Greetings,
I have a 4.2 J-Tech Photonics laser mounted on my Shapeoko Pro XXL.
I want to upgrade on an extreme budget.
Are there any recommendations for a budget friendly module compatible with Lightburn?
Minimum 10w but would love a 20w or 40w.
Lightburn doesn’t have anything to do with this…
It’s entirely up to the control board to handle the laser module. Most modules use a 0 to 5V signal (TTL) to control the laser. If you have a laser now, it’s likely that it’s driven by the same control.
The only thing to be aware of is what kind of current the control board can provide to the laser module. My DLC32 only allows 24W (12V) or 50W (24V). If the module requires more current you may have to run a separate pair of wires to the module.
These usually have non-standard mounting systems, so ensure it will mount up or that you can make what’s necessary for it to mount on your machine.
This was an $80 500mW laser machine from Amazon, one of them I upgraded to a 5.5W module and cut the mount out of acrylic. I also had to run an extra wire to supply the module with power, since it draws more current.
Good luck
