Reconnecting to my Laser Printer

Dear LightBurn,

I recently went to use the Laser engraver and it would not work for me. When I turned it on it went right to the Home Location but would not stop.

It was then that I realized the Software had elapsed. I wen and updated it but it still is not reconnecting and the laser head keeps going to the corner and grinding on the belts.

Here is my information.

When I open up version 1.7.06 the console page comes up and says it is "Waiting for connection…

Then has a space to (type commands here)

What am I doing wrong or still need to complete?

Does it Home when you power up without the PC connected? Some do, some wait for a software command. In both cases, the software has nothing to do with the Home cycle. That is entirely within the controller.

but would not stop” indicates it searched for the Home switches but did not find one or both. Not all machines have Home switches. Before going any farther, please confirm you do have switches on the machine.

I am not sure what the “Switches” are? I see there are little metal Clips off the roller motor that bumps into a White Plastic Post, is that one?

I did see one sitting close to the printer and wondered what it was then found another still on the machine. The machine had been shuffled a bit when being moved one day.

Not sure, can you take a picture and put it in a reply?

Here is a picture of one clip on the paper and one clip on the roller apparatus.

I am hoping the image shows up.
I drug it over.

I think I found the problem, I put the clip on the upper Roller Mechanism, and it stops in the right spot. Next move later to day will be to try to run a file.

Thanks so far.

Neil

Indeed! Let us know if you are back in business.

I was able to engrave stuff again, but the center point is now off, and I had to push the engraver head to the location then hit “Frame” from there before running this test.

When I tell it to “Home” it goes into the lower left corner but with the graphic in the center when I hit Frame it runs into the corner as if it is trying to recenter.

My point is down in corner and should be in the center, correct?

Have yet to find the button that lets me move it, but I am also doing other things in the office this morning.

This suggests you are using Current Position instead of Absolute Coords. Can you do a screen capture (WinKey-Shift-S) showing your Move and Laser windows with the workspace and put it in your Reply? Do not change anything first…

You were so correct.

Here was my first selection by default and then Absolute Coords as you suggested,

and it now goes where I was expecting it to.

Reason I guessed right is because Lightburn keeps defaulting my coordinates to Current Position and my Retract macro bangs the frame. I have no idea why it happens.

My “clip” came off again. Is there a place where I can buy one of the Home Switches?

Neil

It depends on how it is made. If it is just a microswitch with a lever, You just need to match the physical size and mounting hole pattern. There are bunches of them on eBay, Alibaba, and Amazon. If it is an electronic unit, just find one to match, same sources.

Mike,

Thank so much.

I glued the actuating clip with some Gorilla Glue,
and it seems to be holding.

I also found a similar replacement online.

Neil

Not sure how that would work, but good for you. I think replacements is still a good idea.
