I have an HP 3655 Boss Laser. (150 watts). Running light Burn. I am replacing it with a 130-150-watt Recci tube. Having problems cutting at even 90% power and 10% speed. Laser Burn and controller sync. seems to be working. Any help would be appreciated
The new tube is surely a slightly different diameter, which means it sits higher or lower in its clamps. A different tube position = different beam position = mirror alignment isn’t correct = beam does not go where it should.
If the tube clamps have a fine vertical adjustment, you may be able to recenter the beam at Mirror 1 and It Will Just Work™ again. Be sure to move both clamps the same distance to keep the beam parallel to its previous orientation.
This may be a good occasion to treat the machine to new mirrors and focus lens, too.
Once you get to around 80W and up, the diameter is 80mm – makes me doubtful it’s a tube alignment issue.
All I can suggest it to start at the begging with a TEM00 mode test, if good follow through with another alignment.
Cutting what… a 2"x4" stud?
If this is 3mm ply, then it’s seriously got a problem… if it’s 3/4" that’s different.
Either the lps isn’t up to the new tube, which is unlikely. The other tube worked OK, that would indicate a tube problem… again, back to checking it’s TEM00 mode.
Any chance you have a wattmeter?
1.) working tube
2.) clean and aligned optics
3.) proper focus
If you have these three things, they work…
Sure, but with what tolerance?
The tube in mine measures 50.0 mm OD at one clamp and 49.0 mm at the other, with the clamps 500 mm apart.
If the next tube is a perfect 50.0 mm, the beam will be off by a millimeter for every meter it travels, maybe three millimeters by the time it reaches Mirror 3 in the far corner.
Throw in a little initial misalignment and it’ll splash off the inside of the nozzle.
Agreed: checking for TEM00 is always a good idea these days, even with a new tube.
I haven’t gotten much of anything that didn’t vary. These are glass and will vary during manufacture. I find it hard to fathom you can’t use a 49.8mm tube in a 50mm or a 50.1…
Mine isn’t hard plastic, it soft tubing…
My m1 is off center by more that I’d like, but it still aligns and works ok.
Sure, you can drop the new tube in and screw it down.
Point was, if you just drop it in and screw it down, without doing anything else, the beam will likely not follow the same path.
