Request additional edit nodes movements

Feature Request: Precision Node Movement & Snapping Enhancements**

I’d love to see enhanced node movement and snapping tools in LightBurn. The current node editing is useful, but adding the following features would make alignment and precision cutting much easier:

  1. Directional Node Movement (X/Y Axis Constraints)
  • Pressing X or Y while moving a node should lock movement to that axis (like how it works in CAD or Blender).
  • This would allow for perfectly straight adjustments without requiring guides.
  1. Advanced Snapping Options
  • A toggleable snapping system (similar to Blender’s magnet tool).
  • Snapping should allow nodes to:
    • Snap to other nodes for clean connections.
    • Snap to lines and curves for perfect alignment.
    • Snap to intersections for precision placement.
  1. Diagonal & Custom Angle Snapping
  • Allow nodes to snap along a diagonal line or predefined angles (e.g., 45°, 30°).
  • Useful for aligning nodes accurately when working with complex designs.

These features would greatly improve workflow for users needing precise alignment in laser cutting projects. Thanks for reviewing this! LightBurn is already amazing, and these features would make it even better. I appreciate all your hard work!

No.1, you can easily achieve this by, after marking the desired points, moving the node with the arrow keys. Be aware, this also applies to multiple nodes at the same time.
Regarding snapping (no.2), you can fine-tune the precision in the settings, works very well for me. Works for nodes and objects…
Regarding angular displacement of nodes, I use “2 point rotate/scale”, and “single key rotation shortcut”, it is not a direct construction tool but does the mentioned desire, with a little more effort. Try giving it a chance.

I was certain there was a precise way to move nodes in LightBurn, similar to Blender. Given how thorough the developers are in maximizing the software’s capabilities, it’s just a matter of discovering it through deep research or LightBurn tutorials. Thank you very much. I’ll try that.

Great idea! The best place to make a request like that is over on Fider, our feature request tracker.

Appreciate it, Sir Collin! I’ll post this on Fider and see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback.
