I have downloaded an SVG file, where I see a shape that has 6 slots and 2 tabs.
The shape is closed, not groupped. Its shape is “simple”.
My question is what is the fastest and easiest way to change from 4 to 3 mm for both the slots and the tabs.
The problem is the following.
If I choose the “slot” option then my 2 tabs will changed in a bad way.
If I choose the “tab” option then my 6 slots will change in a bad way.
My workaround was to double the shape. Do the slot size change and then go to Edit Node and grab back the resized tabs. Then do the resize for Tabs. Then delete the copied shape.
Of course this shape is simple, but imagine a large one with 50%-50% of slots and tabs.
I have tried to cut the shape to smaller shapes that has only slot or tab, but then I can not really glue them together well. Several tiny remainder of the cutting line is there inside the shape
To avoid misunderstanding:
This tool is super helpful, I use it a lot. Just an idea if we can have a “select” / “unselect” option for the found slots/tabs it would be helpful.
Thank you for reading it and any good workaround is wellcome!
Please explain why this is “bad”. If I understand, you intend to change from 4mm to 3mm, or using a thinner material than the original design provided. I see this change working as intended.
When adjusting the slot depth, the blue arrow indicates the direction the adjustment will make. In this case, the original base-line for the slot will move outward for this shape. The resulting slot, shown on green layer, is not as deep, ready for the desired 3mm material.
Similarly for the Tab Height, changing the design to use thinner material would require the tab to not protrude as far; thus the blue arrow showing the direction of movement inward, shortening it.
Both Slot and Tab mode working fine on their own. But they do “overwork”.
The problem is that in horizontal there are only 2 tabs and no slot. In the vertical there are 3+3 slots.
However if I select the “slot” mode, then it will find a slot in the horizontal side, but this is not a slot just gap between 2 tabs…and vice versa if I select the Tab mode in the “Resize Slots” window.
So if not possible to avoid these “overworks”, then I’m looking for the best workaround / method to set back those “overworks”.
I have put together a simple example.
The problem is with shapes which has slots AND tabs as well.
The red shape is like in the Lightburn attached file.
You can’t do it at the same time. Lightburn can’t know when it’s a slot and when it’s a tap, that’s why we have the option to determine it in the menu.
I have watched the demo video for this toolset, where it was told that we shall eliminate all not needed nodes, but totally forget to use this for my advantage.
