Rotary engraving oversize

Hi there, I have a fiber laser 60w JPT, I recently sttarted using it and dont have much experience, I tried engraving a mug, and found that the image was stretched accross half the diameter of the mug, It would seem that the speed of the rotary may be a problem but not sure how to set or correct this to suit.

Hello, DanCoet
You are likely correct, except replace “Speed” with “Steps” There is a driver internal to the laser (Usually internal) that has a bunch of DIP switches on it, for example settings for 5000, 6400, 12800, etc. These settings are how many pulses or steps it takes for rotary to make one full rotation. This setting has to match the setting in the rotary window. I am assuming you have a chuck type rotary. Sounds to me like LB settings is greater then DIP settings. You can open up the case and read the switches, or experiment with the settings in the LB rotary window. The Test button should cause the chuck to rotate 360 degrees and back.

I will give it a try, thank you for the tip, are the dipswitches easily accessible

They are on my machine so hopefully yours will be the same. They are located here:
