Hello Community,
I am having issues with round logos coming out using my rotary tool. I have made several attempts to make place round logos on tapered tumblers with no success. I used the “warp” tool and the logos still come out egg shaped. Attached are images of my settings. Any help to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.
First you need to verify that you are getting correct coverage of your tumbler. Draw a skinny rectangle the circumference of your cup, 276.68 mm in this case, and burn it to the top edge of a taped up cup. If the ends meet, you’re good. If not, you need to make adjustments to your rotary settings.
Once you have achieved that, your round image should measure correct around your tumbler. It will however look squashed because the cup is round and the logo is wrapped around it. You need to stretch the width of the image to account for the curvature of the cup. 10-15% is a good starting point. I would burn it to a taped up cup and evaluate if it is enough distortion or too much and adjust as necessary.
I ran a test with the circumference of the cup, 276.88 mm, and it lines up. Unfortunately the tape on a cup does not work on a Galvo Laser…I’ve tried. I just have some Faa-cups that I practice on until there is no more paint. LOL. Thank you for the help.
Hello Tim,
So after checking that my circumference as correct with a test square, I proceeded to play with the distortion percentage. I found that 25% works well, do that sound like a lot of distortion for the image to come out correctly?

If that is what looks good to you use it. Note that as you look from an angle other than straight on, the distortion becomes more apparent. It’s all subjective as to what looks best.
Keep in mind though that different diameter tumblers are going to need different amounts of distortion. What looks good on a skinny tumbler will not necessarily look right on a stanley.
As the diameter increases the visible area flattens out.
