Router tried to run passed limit switch, then plunged deeper than plunge rate specified

Hello all, I’m fairly new to CNC software. I went by the tutorial Millmage showed on YouTube, but when I ran my test, my router wanted to almost get out of its holder, then went and plunged straight into the wood like no one’s business. I put everything in mm, checked the plunge rate, all that jazz. I also run a Macbook Air running Sonoma.

Ive had that happen when I forget to RE-Zero the Z after I move the spindle?

Back when I was like 7 or 8, my uncle had a big CNC machine, cutting edge at the time. He named it “TOM” - Totally Obedient Moron.

It is times like these I get reminded of the reasons behind that name

We need much more information to help you.

Sharing project would be very helpful.

What is your machine?

Where did you set XYZ zero on the project?

How did you set your XYZ zero (work coordinate offset) on the machine? Did you jog to the Zero position for each axis and click the “zero work piece” buttons in the move panel or did you use a probe block?

Are you following a checklist prior to cutting? i.e. home all axis, check clamps/workholding/…, zero workpiece/material x/y/z. … It’s easy to accidentally skip over a step without a checklist to ensure required steps have been completed.

If this turns out to be a missed step prior to cutting MM has a feature to enable a reminder of your checklist, including a video.
