Rubber for stamps

Hello Everyone,

I have been doing some digging and looking around for rubber to start trying to make stamps with my laser. I’ve found a few other posts on the forum about people purchasing from Amazon and other online vendors. I’m looking into purchasing online, but I was wondering if anyone has had any luck purchasing rubber from a Hardware store.

I was at Lowes and found 6x6 sheets of washer rubber and was curious if anyone has tried using that for their stamps:

I’m mainly curious if the rubber is safe to use for the laser. I haven’t been able to find any MSDS or anything else about it.

I’m working with weird materials too.
You want to make sure the rubber isn’t halogenated.

This is not a comprehensive review of safe materials.

Thanks for the help! I will definitely check on that. I know rubber can have a lot of additives which is why I figured I would ask the forum. My laser is in my basement, so I would prefer NOT to poison the whole house with Chlorine gas!

:smiley_cat:

These guys sell everything you’ll ever need, and you know that it’s laser safe too.

Thank you everyone for the replies. Jack, that was the rubber I was planning to get, I was just hoping to find something I didn’t have to order online.

For anyone wondering, the rubber from Lowe’s did NOT pass the Beilstein test. I attached a photo for anyone interested.
