Ruida 320-A hardware upgrade

I run a sign making company. I have a laser cutter that I purchased second hand. I mainly use the machine for cutting acrylic letters for signage. I’d like to do some upgrades starting with the controller. Is this an easy swap out. Was looking at 6445 or the 6445 touchscreen.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are vendor settings that need to be applied to the new controller. You should be able to get them off the original controller. Such as steps/mm for your axes motors. This is also why you shouldn’t do a factory reset on these, as all the vendor settings are lost.

A controller swap out shouldn’t be an issue unless it uses some type of specialized hardware.

X and Y axes would use the same motor drivers and the laser only needs pwm and an enable signal.

I don’t know the 320-A controller, so this is about all I can tell you. Do what you need to in order to recover the internal settings… might turn out a lot more simple.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot for the tip. I’ll see what settings I can get off the current controller. At least that way things aren’t totally lost.

I trust you’ve already aimed LightBurn at the controller and found it doesn’t work.

If it’s that controller, then the electrical connections will be a matter of transferring the wires to the 6445 connectors.

As @jkwilborn points out, you must extract the existing configuration from the old controller. Making screenshots of the RDWorks (or whatever) machine settings will be invaluable in sorting out all the details.
