Ruida 6445SS – Rotary Not Moving, Y-Axis Partially Active

Hello everyone,

I’m having a strange issue with my Ruida 6445SS controller and my rotary attachment. The rotary was working before, but now it’s completely unresponsive. Here’s what’s happening:

Issue Description:

  • The rotary is recognized in both LightBurn and RDWorks, but it does not move.
  • The Y-axis is restricted (it only allows fine adjustments) instead of being fully disabled when the rotary is enabled.
  • The laser receives the rotary settings, but when I start a job, it does not rotate—sometimes the Y-axis moves instead.

Troubleshooting Done:
:heavy_check_mark: Checked and reconnected all cables (multiple times).
:heavy_check_mark: Enabled and disabled the rotary setting in both RDWorks and LightBurn.
:heavy_check_mark: Reset the controller to factory settings and reloaded the settings.
:heavy_check_mark: Rewrote the rotary parameters (including pulse settings).
:heavy_check_mark: Tried different Circle Pulse values** (5000, 10000, etc.).
:heavy_check_mark: Unplugged and reconnected the rotary multiple times (also tested after a full power cycle).
:heavy_check_mark: Y-axis moves normally when the rotary is disabled.
:heavy_check_mark: The rotary used to work before – no hardware changes.

Additional Info:

  • Controller: Ruida 6445SS
  • Software: LightBurn & RDWorks (both tested)
  • The rotary is connected via a single cable, replacing the Y-axis (no extra U-axis available).
  • I tried sending movement commands, but the rotary remains still while the Y-axis is partially responsive.

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? Could this be a firmware issue, or is there a setting that might force the controller to fully switch to rotary mode?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :rocket:

If you are plugging the rotary into the Y-axis, replacing your ordinary Y-axis… how can it still be partially active?
