Ruida Controller and Lightburn

Hello I recently reset my controller like an idiot and don’t know the parameters anymore on this chinese blue and white 50w laser with a Ruida 644XG controller. The laser is going too fast! Also I’m not sure how to get the power settings to sync with lightburn. I have a k40 at home but this is a whole different laser. Helping out a friend. Please help!

Wish I could help, I have the 6445G and it’s a different file. Once you get it straightened out, make a back up of the Vendor Settings for just this situation.

This might help:

You’re buggered, unless you know someone with an identical machine.

You just have to play and find the right settings.

‘going too fast’ indicates the stepper settings are wrong. What happens if you try and scribe a 20mm circle?

The easiest way is to start with calibrating the stepper step and distance. Follow an instructional for calibrating a GRBL CNC or 3D printer or laser. The method is the same.

Typically I would set a movement in X axis, mark the beginning and end points, then move and measure. Adjust setting, do it again, until a 50mm movement moves exactly 50mm.

I gaffer-tape a digital calliper to the gantry, open it wide, touch the laser head to the calliper, zero and move, then read the distance. Rinse and repeat.

Most of the vendor settings are tube output and CNC movement related.

Any 644XG working file will get you close. Bed size is an easy adjustment, and steps / distance calibration is always machine specific. If my get you a 120mm square instead of a 100mm square, but the rest of the setting would at least give you a starting point.

You might check out Matt’s controller swap videos for a starting point. It’s a 6445G vs the 644XG but the actual settings would be close. I just paused the videos when I switched from Top Wisdom to Ruida. Still had to tweak but it was a good base to go off of for Ruida.
