Hello. I’m using a Ruida controller with lightburn. Lightburn can control the laser perfectly fine…but on the controller most of the buttons do not respond to key presses. The buttons that do work are, File, Pause/Play, Origin (just beeps) and pulse. Arrows do nothing, and by nothing I mean I can’t even browse the menu options. Let alone move the head. ZU doesn’t bring up the menu for the controller. It seems like I’m locked out somehow? When it stopped working I was setting up a camera. I didn’t get anywhere near the controller cables when running cable for the cams usb.Which is now setup and working via lightburn. I’m at a loss. I’ve done all the troubleshooting I could think of.
Reset power, unplugged from wall for longer than 10 minutes.
Checked all cable connections from the panel to the controller, and all the cables plugged into the controller.
E stop is off and not tripped.
Only thing I haven’t tried is a firmware upgrade. Honestly I’m scared to upgrade because it’s already acting weird. I don’t want to be stuck with a broken machine.
I have contacted the manufacturer of the laser…but they aren’t being very helpful.
That seems like the cable between the display / keyboard (“HMI” = Human Machine Interface) and the main controller down inside the laser cabinet has come loose on one end or the other, so that it’s making partial contact.
On my KT332N controller, the cable has rectangular connectors with a snap latch holding them in place; yours may be similar or a ribbon cable. It’ll be the only cable between those two units, so a bit of poking around will track it down.
Make sure both ends are firmly in place; push the end of the latch to release it, pull the plug out, and shove it back in until you hear / feel the latch click.
If that doesn’t sort the buttons out, then the situation gets interesting.
I pulled the controller interface out and took the backplate off. Re-seated both plugs, ribbon cable for buttons and connection to controller itself. Still no change
If you’ve owned the thing for less than whatever the seller said was the warranty period, get that process started.
If it’s out of warranty, you’re buying a replacement controller.
You can tear the HMI apart and maybe repair the failed connections inside, but that’s the sort of thing you try when you once again have a working machine.
Yeah I’ve contacted Monport. If all else fails I’m RMA the panel. At least I can still control via lightburn. I just like using the control panel for moving the head on the fly and setting Z.
It’s odd in operation, but the RMA is great. I was going to suggest a panel replacement before the controller. I think you can get either component seperately.
Since you didn’t put your controller model in your profile, I don’t really know what’s under the hood. I some how doubt that Monport puts one of the more expensive models into their machines… Most seem to run about around the 400 to 500 being in the top money…
I had thought I’d seen the panel for <$50 US for my 6442…
Good luck, hope it’s just the panel that they will replace…
