can you work in light burn for design without it being connected to a laser? N00b here

When I replaced my HDD i restored from my system backup and not I get an error message saying my product key has expired. 
Does the license expire? It was a gift from 2018 and I have the license code. So what do i do now? appreciate any help you can give me.

My understanding is licenses are erquired to be renewed to keep new updates coming
But your current version should be still usable (might be wrong)
However on a restore, the licensing might have freaked out
