I am having the exact issue right now and it’s driving me CRAZY. I am running a Sculpfun Pro 33 watt and Lightburn and no issues until this one a week go . My computer is a MacBook Pro. I shut my machine down after completing a lengthy engraving project. The next day I went out to burn a circle and got that same response as you. I have checked every connection, purchased a new Ethernet cable, tried connecting directly instead of thru the hub, read tons of possible corrections on google and tried most. Still nothing. Why would both my ports on the computer quit?
I’m fairly new to the laser and the “laser lingo” is still a challenge for me so I have trouble when friends start talking Ike I’m a pro. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Is this a computer issue or a laser issue. I don’t want to take the computer in unless I know it’s the problem. Thanks.
Dear Wendy, same msg other problem I would say. I guess you connect your sculpfun with usb cable?
This is actually for Ruida controllers and may not represent you machine.
I’m hoping one of the Lightburn, like @gilaraujo can move it to a place more users of your machine will see it.
Do you have the chance to test with another laptop?
Thanks for your response. Yes. I connect with a USB cable. Is that part of or all of the problem?
Thanks for responding. Yes I can. I’ll be out in the shop later today and will see if it changes things. I will report back.
Thank you. I appreciate your assistance.
Hello again. I tried to connect to the laser from a different computer, a MacBook Air, Unfortunately exactly the same thing happened. I have absolutely no idea what to try next.
Wifi or usb to the laser?
Wifi from router in house and usb from computer to laser
Some of the macs need to convert from a 3.0usb to a 2.0usb. I don’t know if that includes you. Usually it’s a relative low cost hub of some kind.
Both of my Mac computer ports are 2.0 and my hub has 2 x 2.00, 1 x 3.0, 1 type C and 2 HDMI ports
Can you see the device from the os. Windows it’s the device manager, don’t know what it’s called on the mac. Mine has lsusb which allows you too see what devices are out there.
Here’s a similar link with a video on how to check this. The video is for a co2, but it’s still a grbl machine.
Thankyou. I’ll checkout the video and computer when I get home and will let you know what I find.
Hi again. I watched the video and did what it said and, sure enough, the computer is not seeing the laser. I have no idea how it lost it?
Do you think I should reinstall the laser.
You have to get the computer to see it on the USB first, otherwise it will never connect to Lightburn. How exactly are you trying to connect, what cable type, any adapters, etc.?
Of course. Not thinking.
I connect computer to laser with the cable that came with it which is a USB Type B and that is what I replaced it with. Unfortunately, neither work. No other connections other than a mouse which is a Tecknet with a USB type 2.0 connection and when I searched it does show up so the ports are picking something up..
Just wondering if this could possibly be an Apple update problem? Probably not or I’m sure there would be a lot more people writing in.
Thanks..I really appreciate your perseverance. I’m out now for the evening but I’ll be checking in again in the morning. It’s hard to leave when I just want to get up and running again.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Turns out it was the motherboards. And Sculpfun is replacing it. I should be up and running soon.
