Sculpfun S10 No Movement

Hello,

Just got a S10 and purchased the lightburn software. I followed the lightburn install/setup video with the sculpfun and the software found and connected to the laser but I cannot get any action out of the software.

Lightburn 1.2.01
Sculpfun S10

With the machine off, I positioned the head in front left, both at 0 and with a buffer, and have chosen absolute coords, front left. I tried to jog any direction and it just won’t do anything. Did what it says here also: Common GRBL/GCode Setups - LightBurn Software Documentation

Soon as I open the software, it connects, and if I click get position, I get this X:237.28 and Y:549.93 but I have no idea where those values are coming from. Console just shows:

Waiting for connection...
Grbl 1.1g ['$' for help]
[MSG:'$H'|'$X' to unlock]
error:9
G-code locked out during alarm or jog state.

ok

I just installed LaserGRBL, opened the software, clicked Connect. Clicked the right jog arrow and the laser moved. I sure wish Lightburn gave me the same result.

Please advise.

Edit:

I noticed jogging in lightburn changes the Y coords when clicking the jog up arrow, and the console changes, but still no movement.

Here’s more screenshots.

First one is after closing and reopening lightburn.

Click Get Position once:

Click Get Position second time:

Click Get Position third time:

I don’t understand where the X:237.28 and Y:549.93 values are coming from. The machine is started with the laser at 0 0 and the max area is 400x400mm. I’ve checked device settings, right clicked Get Position and Device buttons… I have no clue how the program is coming up with those two values. But being that the area is 400x400 of course it won’t do anything if it thinks its at 549.93.

Device Settings:

It just doesn’t work with Lightburn. I tried the LaserGRBL software and it worked right off the bat. No setup.

Does this machine come with limit/homing switches?

What does it do instead? Are there any message in Console when you attempt this?

What exactly from this did you do? Don’t believe the Sculpfun S10 would have required any changes.

It looks like you have an offset configured. This is one of the reasons why I was asking about what you did from the guide.

Just to confirm, you’re saying the reported position changes but not correlated to actual physical movement?

These are as reported from the controller.

Can you run a homing operation (if your laser has homing switches) or else start the machine with laser head at front left and then run these commands in Console:

$I
$$
$#
?

Then try jogging. If it works then jog to top-right and then run this:

?

Please return all results.

Out of the box, the Sculpfun S10 has no homing switches.

You are talking about “machine off” did you have the USB cable connected? Then the laser is NOT turned off. The controller is still running. You need to turn off the main power AND remove the USB cable. Only then you have a clean reboot.

Hi…
Had exactly the same problem.
It is related to the firmware on the S10.
Follow the instructions on

section “firmware update S10”

after the Firmware update everything worked
