Sculpfun S30 Ulta 30W engraving quality

Hello! I have a problem with one of my lasers. I currently have the S30 pro max 20w which is my first laser, a month ago I got the S30 ultra 30w and only yesterday I was able to test it. I’ve done comparison tests between my two lasers and to be honest I’m not particularly happy with the results of the S30 ultra. There is blurring during engraving, I am attaching photos of the tests of the two lasers. Both are in focus, both have been cleaned excellently. All pulleys and belts have been checked and are OK. i have also compared the $$ values, everything is fine, only i have increased the engraving speeds of both to 12000mm/m. Any advice on what it could be?

Have you measured and set the Scanning Offset Adjustment on the new laser?

No, I’m not, but I’m not on the S 30 PRO max either, and the engraving quality there is good. Does this make any difference?

I have lost track of which machine is which, because the labels on the test samples don’t quite match your descriptions.

In any event:

  • Yes, it matters, because not setting the adjustment will produce the blurred edges you describe
  • The scanning offset adjustment for one machine does not apply to another, different machine
  • If you never set it for either machine, it will be differently wrong for both

Basically, back up a few paragraphs and tune both machines for best results, then take another look at what’s happening.

This seems optimistic, based on the values of GRBL settings $110 and $111, and may overstress the machine’s mechanical construction. If you’re getting unstable results, stay well within the limits of what the seller claimed to be possible.

As discussed on Facebook, the results are as expected. There is nothing wrong with both lasers

The machines are “officially” running at 6000mm/min, if you are running at 12,000, you are already out of specs and need to tune accordingly. Blurriness can come from too high speeds.

You also need to consider that the beam size of the Pro Max is about 0.12mm whereas the 33W Ultra has about 0.2mm (depending on quality, sometimes maybe more). So you only have half the resolution using the 33W. Depending on settings, this can also cause it to look blurry.

The more power, the worse the engraving quality! If you want to have best engraving quality, choose 10W, everything after is better at cutting, but worse in engraving. Some Sculpfun models in comparison:
