Sculpfun S9 cuts different size than indicated in Lightburn

I have downloaded the simple ABox from Boxes.PY in LRBN2, the cut on the bottom and two sides is correct (100.2mm as indicated in the settings), but the two other sides come out larger, i.e. 107.2mm. I’ve also downloaded the phone holder and it has the same problem, i.e. the back of the holder is significantly smaller than indicated on the template. What am I doing wrong?

Have you modified your machine in any way or replaced parts?

Normally these machines come relatively well calibrated but any modification could throw this off.

Most machines could benefit from some level of calibration but normally wouldn’t be as big an issue as what you’re seeing.

Try burning a 100x100mm square. Measure the sides and the corners. Does it measure 100x100mm and have right angle corners?

Hi,

Thanks for coming back to me.

I calibrated the laser after the test with the 100x100 square. The variance was very limited: 0.14mm). I again cut the ABox, but this time all five elements in one go. Now the result is OK. Could the problem be that before I did the cut element by element?

This should be absolutely fine to do. But if that’s the case I suspect you may possibly have a mechanical issue with the laser.

I’d suggest doing a full mechanical review of the machine. In particular, checking belt tension, pinion gears, eccentric nuts on wheels, etc. You want the machine running smoothly.

It’s odd that you had sides come in longer than expected. Coming in shorter would be more typical for a mechanical issue but still worth reviewing.
