i just received a new sculpfun s9, 5.5.w. it seems it doesent have alot of power. the assembly and the focus seem to be right. i m cutting 200mg paper mit 20mm/s and 100% power. it s the max it can do. this should be possibel alot more quicker no ??
we usually go with mm/min for low power diode lasers so your speed is 1200mm/min (you can change to mm/min in settings). Anyway, if you’re working with white paper it can reflect a good proportion of the laser light, only when it starts to darken due to heat does it absorb more so there’s a fairly sharp cutoff between apparently no effect and burning right through. It is particularly poor for engraving for this reason. You should adjust your speed down until you get the effect you desire - either marking or cutting.
hey, thanks for your answer. yes, i had the co2 settings in the speed and not for diode. so i guess the s9 just doesent have a lot of power. its working now with the thick paper, but slow.. maybe i ll try to get a natural paper, which gonna be more brown.. so less reflections..
I’ve cut a lot of 3mm Birch ply with my S9 in the past it’s very effective for a 5W laser module - mainly due to the very small spot size it offers. It’s also a great choice for fine engraving of images.
for sure its a great machine, especially for the prize. i just use it to cut stencil on a little more thick paper and was expecting i could drive a little more speed. but maybe with a black paper, i ll try.
