Awesome looking clock… Very unique indeed.

I was thinking if you put the mask (tape, other paint, etc…) over the top of the tile and laser-ed through it, it would then already be in place for masking the colorizing steps.

Thanks Corey!
I use tape for wood etching/fill because as you say, it is pre-masked for filling after the etch (protects the wood from the fill slop). With tile, the fill (paint) can be easily scraped flush with a razor blade or a sanding sponge/steel wool since most glazes are very hard and wont get scratched.

I’m working on a project using ceramic coasters. There isn’t any glaze, just ceramic. I wanted to do a shallow etch and fill in with a couple of colors. It needs to be a water proof color. Can you explain how you got your red and green, and is it waterproof?

Hi Daniel,
I just used hobby store acrylic paints, but anything that can flow will work. Resin or even epoxy can have colors added. I like dye for solid, mica for a more shimmery fill.
With ceramics, the fill that spills over the etchings can be removed by just sanding or scraping flush with a razor blade. The ceramic should be hard enough to not get scratched up, but of course testing is prudent.
If doing different colors on the same tile, I like to use a small brush or even a small syringe to keep the colors from getting in the wrong areas.
You can also cover the tile with masking tape (it will get burned through). This masks off the un-etched areas for an easier cleanup.
