Select an object under an object

I have the following design but cannot figure out how to select a shape underneath another shape.

I’m looking for an option to send this border layer backwards so I can select the dog. Every time I click the dog it selects the border. Any suggestion other than juggling the layers with the show toggle?

Would it be possible for you to upload your LB file for people to play with?

Sure thing, here it is. I actually come across this issue a few times when the design becomes complex. Sometimes it causes more headache than others, just looking for a send to back button or backwards so I can easily work on the other pieces. I usually setup the outside frame and work inwards but maybe I need to do the opposite.

You can bring stuff forward or send it back in the Z order from the ‘Arrange’ menu.

However I haven’t needed to do this in the image above, I just clicked on the dog. However, it does seem to matter which part of the dog you click on.

Hmm, I thought that was similar to the draw order and how the job would turn out. I will give that a try, thank you Marcus!!!

Seems ungrouped to me, so I don’t understand what you are wanting to do…

As you can see, only the dog is selected…

Can you give us a better explanation of what you wish to accomplish…

Hi. I learned from one of the topics here in the forum, that the “Push back, forward, backward” will only work in the “Wireframe view style” which you will find under the “Window” menu.
I hope this helps

Rather than click-to-select, drag a rectangle from left to right that encloses only the thing you want to select:

If the (red) drag rectangle starts outside all the other stuff and encloses just the dog, as shown, you’re done.

Note that dragging the rectangle right-to-left selects everything the (green) rectangle touches, which is sometimes what you want but more often leads to heartache & confusion.

As someone else mentioned, a lot of times I find it easier to select filled objects by switching to wireframe view. It’s under the Window menu up top. Once selected you can click on the specific line you want.

I just put them back into line mode… seems about as easy.

LightBurn is intended to be used in Wireframe (outline) mode, with Filled Rendering mode intended to be used only for spot checking. Many things in LightBurn are significantly easier in Wireframe mode, including selection, node editing, and working with Booleans.
