Self generated speed/power grid

. I’ve been having a real problem generating a power/speed grid, I know there’s one in Lightburn’s laser tools but I want to make my own.
When viewing my preview, it is clear that there is a gradient from left to right to mirror the power output but there is no corresponding gradient from top to bottom to represent speed. My grid simply shows the effects of altering power output but not its relationship with speed which is the main reason for creating these grids.
If a diagonal line were to be drawn from one top corner of the grid to the lower corner then the 2 halves would mirror each other but mine doesn’t.
I think the problem is that the layers dictate both power and speed and so if you set layer 1 as 1000 speed and 50% power then everything on that layer will run at 50% power. I know that the apparent solution is to set the power from shape properties and just set the speed from the cuts/layers but this does not work, the layers override these settings. I hope this makes sense, this is driving me quietly insane.

I don’t think that’s exactly correct. The power setting in Shape Properties is a percentage of the setting defined in the Cuts/Layer view.

Example: Cuts/Layer power is set to 50% and a particular object on that layer is set to 50% via Shape Properties, the resultant power setting for that shape is 25%. (50% of the layer setting).

Here’s how other speed/power grids are set-up
The layer is set to 100% power and individual shapes are set to their desired power.

Question;
Why do you want to create your own speed/power grid when so many are available? Seems like a classic example of re-inventing the wheel.

Thanks for your reply. I’ll get onto this tomorrow, hopefully with a positive outcome. I’m new to lasers and Lightburn and I’m trying to get an understanding for both, you’re correct that I don’t need to make my own grid but that’s how I learn, besides, if you’re going to invent something what could be better than a wheel? :grinning:

Lot’s of youtube vid’s on creating them.

Well I can certainly get behind that!

Full speed ahead!
