Setting up a Chuck Style Rotary OMtech 100 watt

I have read a lot of threads here about this type of setup. I have not tried to burn anything using the rotary yet. Just trying to get it configured correctly first. Here is what I have done so far.
Using Rotary setup I selected Chuck as the rotary type. I select enable Rotary
The Drive is set to 10000 steps per rotation
Since the rotary is geared 2to1 I set the steps per rotation to 20000
And the Object diameter to 80.0mm
When I run the test the head moves about 20mm to the left and rotates the head about 3 revolutions
and rotates back past the starting point.
After playing with the steps per rotation I found that if I set it to 11450.00 It will make 1 full revolution and return to the starting point.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong.
I also have not seen anyone mention the head moving to the left or right before doing the rotation.
Dont know if it matters but my laser is using a 6442G Controller

Where did you get the 10000 steps/rotation?

See if this post helps you out… :+1:

I think my mistake was the Rotary ratio. I got the 2.1 Ratio from a video explaining how to set up a chuck style rotary. However after reading your post this morning I looked on the OMTECH website and found that the Rotary ratio is actually 1:1.5. If I multiply the 10000 X 1.15 I get 11,500 which could be correct. I will see if it works, It still would not explain why the head moves to the left before starting the test. Once it makes a complete revolution it moves back to the right and rotates back to the starting point. I am not sure if this is the correct behavior or not.

This was very helpful
Thanks

From your description, it sounds like it’s working…

If the Ruida controller is set to return to home it will…

Good luck
