Settings lost every time Lightburn is closed

Hello,
We are running Lightburn Ver 1.4.04 on WIndows 10

Please reference the setting screen below. We purchased a Monoport 50 W Fiber Galvo laser. We have multiple lenses for this laser. To address the different settings for each lens, We created a unique “device” for each lens with the appropriate settings for that lens. For this example, I am using our 150mm lens as an example. In the insert below, I have highlighted the section that we have varying numbers based on the specific lens. The red shaded area would likely have numbers like scale = 81%, Bulge 1.0025, Skew 1, trapezoid 1.0015 under galvo 1, and scale = 89%, Bulge 1.0015, Skew 1, trapezoid 0.998 for galvo 2.

I also delete the JCFIber (USB lite) device that automatically shows up with the default file.

The problem arises when I am done for the day. If I shut down Lightburn and restart, it re-instates the JC Fiber (USB lite) that was deleted to the list, remembers all of the new device names we have created, (i.e. JCFibe 150mm, JCFiber 200mm, 300mm, etc.) but the settings in every one of them return to the default values of scale = 100%, Bulge 1.00, Skew 1, trapezoid 1.00.

In addition to this, I am using a computer that has multiple users, and we have found online that if one wants all users to have access to the same settings files, one should copy the prefs.ini file of a given user with desirable settings, rename it defaultprefs.ini and store it in the executable folder for Lightburn. Supposedly the defaultprefs.ini is supposed to overwrite other prefs.ini files. The trouble is, that is not working either.

So in summary, can someone PLEASE provide specific (preferably with screen shots and arrows) directions on how to make Lightburn remember the difficult to determine settings for each lens, and how to make those settings available to any user that logs into the computer assigned to our laser.

Due to the extreme amount of time it takes to determine the proper settings for each lens, and the time it takes to reset them after every reboot, this in my opinion is the #1 user issue we are facing.

Could you tell us
a) what windows version (exactly)
b) do you have any antivirus installed
c) after changing all settings again, can you go to FILE → open Pref Folder
And copy the pref.ini elsewhere as a backup and ALSO upload here?

d) close lightburn → open again
if issue happens again. Again to go Pref Folder, make a copy and rename the pref.ini and copy it elsewhere and also update here

I am not sure if this is still valid of if it might causing the two settings to fight eachother. Maybe upload your default pref too ?

This is the text I had in a reply email, but the system will not let me reply via email. When I tried to paste all the info here, the system will not accept my attachments. Can someone tell me how to get you the files this system wont let me attach?

THanks

"Please see the attached PDF with details requested. Also please see attached INI files. One is the prefs.ini while lightburn was running with correct settings, one is the prefs.ini after we restarted and the settings vanished, and one is the defaultprefs.ini we created last week trying to use the same settings for all users.

I would also highlight that throughout all of this, it does NOT return to blank lightburn that does not know the devices we have created. It remembers the individual devices we created to represent each lens, it just does not seem to remember the settings for each of those lenses. It seems that existence of a device is stored in a different file from the settings for that device since it remembers the name but not the detail. Just another clue.

Thanks"

Can someone tell me where I can send the files that were requested to help diagnose the problem. The email would not accept attachments of ini files or a pdf that has all the information requested.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks

DId anyone see my follow up above on not being able to attach the files requested. I can send the info needed if someone can give me a mechnism to send the files that will accept them. I have *.ini files and *.pdf files to help describe the issue better but system will not allow those types posted.

Is there a way to communicate with someone who can help on this subject outside of the blog? I am struggling to get the issue resolved and it is costing me a lot of money to have to renter settings every single time I turn off lightburn. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The forum software setting are such that there are a very restricted set of file types that can be attached. The workaround is to add a .txt extension (after the existing extension e.g. .ini & .pdf). You should then be able to attach them to a forum post.

Hope this helps.

b) do you have any antivirus installed - Yes - ESET

prefsini file with settings entered.csv (104.8 KB)

d) close lightburn → open again
if issue happens again. Again to go Pref Folder, make a copy and rename the pref.ini and copy it elsewhere and also update here
Text of Prefs file after restart below::

prefsini file after restart with no settings.csv (66.4 KB)

I think I found a work around. The system would not let me post *.ini files, but I embeded them in CSV files. Please let me know if you can make use of them in that format.

I appreciate any help. This loss of settings is making using this machine profitably very challenging.

Thanks

There was a user in a different Topic that noticed that their prefs.ini file was set to Read-only at a file level.

It’s worth taking a look. Try opening Properties on prefs.ini in File Explorer and see if the read-only attribute is enabled.

We tried that, and it did not work. In addition, we went and gave all the users admin rights to the PC it is on right now. We are wiping PC and going to reload Lightburn next. If anyone anywhere has insight it would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any kind of phone service available for Lightburn ? We are getting a bit desperate to get this resolved and I am trying to speak to someone potentially at the company. Not sure how to do that.

Thanks

Hey Jason - we don’t offer phone support, though we’re readily accessable either here on the Forum or through Support@lightburnsoftware.com

Have you tried disabling ESET?
