Hi. I’m very new with lightburn and don’t use it very often, but every time I do, I have to change macros, research and troubleshoot why my machine is moving in the wrong direction or has the wrong offset due to changing versions, etc. This time is no different. The grbl startup guide on the webpage seems to be outdated. Is there a new one somewhere I can use for shapeoko 3?
Now into the actual problems:
Problem 1:
Setup image: In the bottom left corner of my image, there is a green dot. This dot is inside the grid, so NOT out of bounds.
Set up shapeoko: home, then move the spindle to the bottom left portion of my workpiece. I clear and establish origin, with “start from origin” selected.
Run: If I click “play” without moving the spindle away from set origin, it drives toward the corner (away from home) and crashes. If I click “start from current location” it will run fine.
Problem 2:
Same setup, green dot is bottom left INSIDE grid. I hit “play” and get an out of bounds warning even though green dot is inside grid. It is my understanding the green dot matches the extreme coordinates of cutting frame. I don’t see any images or lines out of bounds so I ignore warning. during the cut it moves out of bounds and crashes. Although all other layers are turned off, there is still something it is trying to cut and it is not visible and out of bounds even though the green dot is not.
- Use Absolute Coords instead. Then your Lightburn grid is a fair reprensation of the laser table. The Origin is automatically set when you Home the machine, front left in your case.
- User Origin and Current Position require a thorough understanding of the coordinate systems and how they relate to both your laser and your project.
That green square only indicates the coordinate starting position of your design. The out of bounds comes from other components of your project. Mine always stays in the lower left corner and partially outside the grid. Unless I have an excessive overscan setting with an image, I never get “Out of Bounds”.
