I currently have Lightburn 1.4.05 on the laptop I use on my laser. I have used it successfully for some time, calibrated axes, and adjusted my grbl settings to my satisfaction, and Lightburn has read my controller settings giving me very accurate estimates for my runtimes during previews. I have a current update subscription and CAN update, but am anxious to use my new faster, larger screen laptop and have a basic question.
After reading the manual and familiarizing myself with the basic steps to move my settings, libraries, etc. for this version, I am wondering if I should update my Lightburn software to latest version and then use the bundle feature to move the settings. That certainly sounds like to best way but I would like to verify that it is likely to be the most trouble-free. I will still have my old laptop at least for a while so I CAN revert to the existing installation if I have any issues.
Assuming the best plan is to update my software and then bundle the settings to import into my new Lightburn installation on the new laptop, is there any intermediate steps I need to take in the update path between version 1.4.05 and the current version or can I go straight from 1.4.05 to the current version?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
Just do a backup of the settings folder and you are good to go. You can go back to the earlier version at any time then.
Apart from that, I’d just install the new version, it converts all settings to the newest version (at least most of the times , that’s why a backup is recommended)
Thank you very much for your info. Here are a couple of clarification questions that would be helpful for me. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
So to make sure I get everything I need for the backup are the following items EVERYTHING I need to copy or export?
Art libraries
Material libraries
Preferences
Device settings for my laser(s)
Is there anything else I need before I upgrade?
Then after upgrade, I assume using the bundle feature will get me ALL I need to leap to a new install on my new laptop, correct?
… I’m not entirely sure when the “bundle” feature was impelmented, so an old -fashioned copy of your settings libraries and all the loose is probably a good idea.
However, you can always return to the version where everything worked for you, it is a very nice option. Nothing with uninstall and find old bonds … Just install the old version (or the new one) again and you’re up and running.
When you jump from 1.4.05 to 1.7??, You should probably manually import your old settings - I mean, but it is possible that LB finds it all yourself.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
