Slate engraving help needed

What help do you need?

I am trying to engrave this sketch onto slate. We don’t want it to create white eyes but rather to be more like the sketch with the dark eyes. I think it has something to do with inverting or making the photo a negative but I am new and don’t know. This doggie passed recently and I am trying to make a gift for her broken hearted mama. Please can someone help me.

I couldn’t get the explanation to post. We are trying to engrave it so it looks like the sketch. Everywhere I look it says to invert the photo but the eyes come out white and awful. I am new to this and need some guidance on how to make it look like the sketch.

I would do it on white tile. Actually, any other material would work better than slate for this.
Is this an image, if so you can invert it on your layers but most everything will be grey.

Can you upload the file?

It is on here all the way at the top

Where the laser strikes the material it turns gray… any black in the artwork that determins where the laser is on, will go light… That’s the reason for inverting it.

Some slate lases dark, some light… White porcelain tile on the right is using TiO2.

Good luck
