I just set up to burn an ornament and the text burn appears to hesitate or over lap long enough to leave black dots. Then when it moves it burns a fine line from letter to letter.

“45” is not a speed - 45 mm/sec is, or 45 in/min, but 45 by itself isn’t enough.
Having said that, the issue you have is likely that you don’t have Laser Mode enabled ($32=1 in the console, or just enable Laser Mode in the settings). This will make the laser shut off during travel moves.
