Smoothie stalling on etch

I’ve done a few rasters and they work well, but on and off, they just stop and I need to reset the smoothieboard and K40. Any ideas?

This can be caused by a few different things. The most common ones are:

  • Poor quality USB cable (like the one that comes with the K40). Use one with a ferrite bead / ring on it.
  • Poor power isolation or ground loop noise (mount the board on nylon stand offs instead of using metal screws)
  • Noisy power supply, or brownouts caused by other devices (K40 stock power supply is not rated for what it’s used for)
  • USB ports going to sleep to save power (OS setting on the USB port)
