I’ve had zero issues and suddenly a cirlce from solidworks saved as a dxf imports as a polygon into Lightburn while other splines/curves look smooth.
Can you attach your dxf file for us to take a look at? You’ll probably need to append a .txt extension otherwise the forum is likely to reject it.
lst224515.DXF (212.2 KB)
here is the dxf attachment
My Solidworks output of DXF files must have changed. Wierd. Nothing done differently from my end to cause this.
Yes, that’s what I’m thinking. Here’s what I see when I open your dxf in LibreCAD:
How exactly are you exporting your geometry?
Yes, that’s the way I’d do it but I didn’t know whether you know some other way. I drew a single circle then saved as dxf and I got a circle (that’s a proper circle not even a spline approximation) when imported into a couple of CAD programs I tried. I also tried the ‘Export all splines as polylines’ option in SW but I still got a circle. I’m not sure what’s going on exactly but it does seem to be on the SW side of things. Are you able to attach your sldprt file?
This is funny. I extruded my sw sketch. I highlighted the face with right click and chose export to dxf/dwg and got a real circle
I started over and created a new part and created a circle and exported as usual and got a proper circle without extruding/exporting dxf combo I tried. So something is up with that file…
Ok, so it looks like you’ve found a solution but I wonder what’s happened in your original file to cause this?!
That’s interesting, I didn’t think to check the dimensions, although I might’ve spotted it when interrogating the sldprt file.
EDIT:
Ok, so I’ve just done a test and instead of a circle I drew an ellipse, and again it comes out in the dxf as an ellipse, so there’s something else going on with the original file other than it being elliptical.
ROOT CAUSE (ME): I did a test where my view was just ever so slightly skewed and not normal to the sketch plane. Under views to export…Palm on forhead! Thanks Marcus & RalphU!
Haha! well done, at least you’ll know what to look out for in the future.
