Stock to leave In 2 operations not optimal

I did some research and the result I got did not match my expectations with the Stock to leave option. It’s not an optimal option to do it in two steps. The program should make the roughing pass and before going to another part, it should immediately make the finishing pass for that part. I would like to have the option to do the finishing right away with the same bit or later with another bit.Estlcam has this option.

What you are asking for is typically seen as a “Finishing Pass” which is in the plans. Stock to leave is just that, we are leaving stock behind to be machined in a subsequent operation.

I was used to the finishing pass being done immediately after the roughing when I used the same bit and I didn’t have to create a second operation.I’m still glad to have the finishing option.

What operation would we subsequently use to remove the stock to leave of the “roughing” pass?

Assuming you are using a profile, I usually use the copy button in the operations window and make a copy of the path with stock to leave, remove the stock to leave and set the step down to the full pass depth.

If you use “stock to leave” in a Pocket, a Profile operation is usually best, and select the geometry from the Pocket op.

For the roughing pass you select “Stock to leave” for example 0.2mm. Afterwards you can make a copy of the operation and in this operation you set “stock to leave” to 0 and you set the total thickness
