Strange Sounds from laser?

Is it me or does the laser produce a sound such as runinning up and done the musical square

Do you mean musical “scale”? No, mine doesn’t.
What laser are you using?

What produces sound is the movement of the motors.
The laser itself, to my knowledge, does not produce sound that a human can hear…

Ah, but those poor dogs …

These days we have to take into account that we are not the only animals living indoors.
 :+1:

Not just you…

My newer (to me) 3018 seems to hum different notes in the control board with speed and direction changes as it moves. My other engravers are dead-quiet. I’ll put a ‘scope’ on it someday and figure out where it’s coming from.

The Laser? I haven’t heard tones from that part of the engraver. If the laser is making noise like it’s running up and down a scale, maybe it’s noise from a variable fan as the diode warms up and cools off.

In a past life I’d use a 3’ length of 5/8 heater hose to help pinpoint noises on cars. Rolling a sheet of paper ( or an old magazine cover ) lengthwise might make a good directional listening tool.

The sound is coming from the laser but is only when making a curve Up the scale when starting into and down scale when leaving

I have heard similar tones from my lm2s2 with a 10 w laser but only when using the rubber band framing
doesn’t seem a problem

I had to have the wife listen as I thought I was really losing it.

Nah, that’s when you start talking back to the voices in your laser …

The PWM generator could generate a current that can induce to metal parts and they create sound. It is like transformer. May be that you find this sound generating metal plate and properly fasten it.

The sound could be generated from power source that transforms from 220V

Also propelers are moving and vibrations could transfer to surounding area.

Your question is not speciffic, so the cause of sound cannot be located and muted. You could grab a sound with mobile phone.

The sound is coming from the laser but is only when making a curve Up the scale when starting into and down scale when leaving

This could lead to the suspection of metal parts inside not tightened properly.

I don’t know if it is possible, but if you disconnect the cable from the laser head connector I believe that when you send a command to do the same job the sound will come up again.
