Struggling to engrave acrylic with my Omtech 60w co2 laser machine

Hi, I’m trying to engrave mirrored acrylic with my Omtech laser machine however when I try and run this my machine comes up yellow saying there may not be enough acceleration or extended space? it doesn’t even attempt to laser it. I watched a youtube video when he tried 150mm 20% power with the same machine but it just didn’t let me do it. The acrylic is 3mm thick.

Best wishes
Carly

mm per what? He may have been 150mm/min and you could be 150mm/sec, which is 9000mm/min, or 60 times faster.

This is the same type of message as slop error.

The thickness is irrelevant, but it’s size and it’s location. As is the setting of the start from and job origin in Lightburns Laser window.

These two images are from preview… the left at 500mm/s the right at 1000mm/s. I’m using a simple box with fill, it’s about 20mm in the X direction.

The red is overscan which is where the head slows, stops, reverses direction and accelerates back up to the layer speed. Scanning requires the the head to be at layer speed in the black area… *

If your work piece is close to any edge that this red area exists you will get the error you mentioned… it is simply telling you that it needs more area.

* This is why minimum power has no use using a scan type operation.

Make sense?

You can turn on the show traversal moves to see the actual tack in the preview.

Thank you, I have changed the setting now so it has space the engrave
