Success: Lightburn 2.x runs on LinuxMint with WinBoat

Disappointed because support for Linux has been dropped for 2.x onwards? Have a look at WinBoat, a kind-of-vm-with-host-integration (™) with USB-pass-through.

After not being successful at all with Wine I nearly gave up hope, until I stumbled over WinBoat, a open source mixture of docker and kvm. Though currently in beta status, installation of WinBoat on LinuxMint was straightforward.

Installation of Lightburn had a minor hiccup: Dialog boxes got squeezed making them unreadable. The solution is to install and run Lightburn directly from the windows desktop provided by WinBoat. To let Lightburn find your laser and camera, don’t forget to configure Winboat to pass the corresponding usb devices from the host os to the virtual machine. And that’s it.

Done a few tests, runs smoothly with my Ikier laser. I’m happy so far, because it lets me keep two of my favorite software: LightBurn AND Linux.
