Good day, I’m feeling more comfortable with my CO2 laser now and I want to look at getting additional lenses for different focal lengths. I know my diameter needs to be 25mm. I have a few questions.
Omtech used to have a set of (4) lens nozzles, but they no longer do. I got to thinking, is it possible to just change the lens itself inside the tube/head and not buy the vast array of these nozzles? Don’t see why this would be a problem as long as diameter is correct.
What is the purpose of these different nozzles other than clearances? Why not just use the smallest one always or does some of the beam have to be in the nozzle before the focal point? Perhaps it is so that you don’t remove the lens each time from the nozzle, you remove the entire assembly. But again, why not just make them all the same size.
What is your favorite source for lenses?
Has anyone used the spare lenses Omtech provides? Acceptable? Better to go elsewhere?
How often do you change out your lens to switch for projects? I know this is subjective, just curious on this one.
Thanks Jack, I was actually looking for a message you sent before but I couldn’t find it. Had the majority of this info I believe. Thanks for reposting!
So “head” was the word I’m looking for, not just the nozzle. I’ll try to remember.
That compound lens idea is pretty nice. Pretty close to a diode size I assume. Then again, my diode doesn’t seem too great with my skills at the moment so I can probably hold off on that…
It will be around the 0.05mm size without a beam expanded on the source side…
Most led are lightly less than the 0.10mm usually something like 0.08mm and they are rectangular… I have seen some advertised as 0.08x0.05mm…
The assemble is a lens tube and nozzle… the nozzle is just those on the right side of the photo… the compound uses the big hole one… you can see from the graphic that it needs more room for the whole beam to exit the nozzle…
These lens tubes can be inverted to change where the focus point is…
The head usually includes all of the parts… at least the tube, lenses and mirror …
