SVG import issue

I have to cut the profile in the center, which has “laser cuts” and holes, and a couple of “ears” used for alignment, and which, when laser cut, there have to be left a couple of tabs between the tabs and the general oval shape so that after assembly the “ears” can be separated and discarded.

Here is what I unsuccessfully tried. If I create a drawing of the part right out of the sketch, the separation line where I have to set the tabs or bridges between the main piece and the ears, disappear and I cannot set the bridges in LB.

If I make a drawing of the sketch, then the lines are kept and the tabs can be set in LB. Bad news, is that the “laser cuts” created in OnShape will not be included in the sketch.

I also tried to treat the ears and main piece as separated parts, and make a drawing of them. The problem there is that assembling the pieces together the alignment is not acceptable, given that they cannot be set in the exact position as they are in the sketch.

Please, keep in mind that I have over 20 pieces that I have to align, and the end result instead of a straight line will be a 3 dimensional spline.

Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this.?

BTW, I tried to export in DXF, but I can only set on tab per drawing. Also I tried to export the three pieces together (ears and main part) but I can do that in STL, and LB does not import STL.

Welcome…

Do you have a laser yet?

I’m not sure I’m clear on what exactly you’re up to here. Especially the end product.

Lightburn is 2d, the image doesn’t appear helpful to me when I read the text…

Is this the grey area?

Which area are the ‘ears’ referring to?

There is a ‘tab’ option in the cut layer for this exact purpose.

It would help if you could post the dxf file you are working with, maybe we can help you do this…

Maybe explain more about the basic cut you wish and the work flow that you used. No need for real detail, just overall… We’ll ask if we need to…

I sometimes draw things up in Freecad and export the part via dxf file imported to Lightburn…

This is a flow meter housing, Freecad, 3d printed body, but the lid was cut out on the laser exported in dxf.

You can drop the .dxf file on the reply screen and it will upload it or you can use the download-icon-lightburn on the tool bar.

Answering your questions:
Yes, I have a xTool D1
I do not expect LB to be 3D.
Yes, the main part is the grey oval shaped area. The “ears” are the two squared shaped at te sides.
If you can tell me how were you able to set more than one tab in the DXF file, it will help. however, I doubt that the DXF can fix the problem.

Thank you, Ralph. I think this may work. I will try that.
