SVPRO 8MP issues, and several calibration process questions

I bought a camera mount that came with a camera that didn’t work with a Mac, so I ended up buying this camera:

Lightburn sees the camera and it shows an image, but the exposure on the image sometimes fades from light to dark and back over about 5 seconds each way. Before 2.0.0, I had to use the dots to calibrate, Apriltags would NOT work at all. There’s an improvement on 2.0.0, but sometimes the images come across all distorted or as swirls when calibrating, or just black.

  1. Should I just give up and buy the official Lightburn camera?
  2. The camera is connected via a 20ft USB cable. Could that be causing issues? I would suspect it wouldn’t work at all if that was the case. I don’t know if there’s a way on mac to get framing error counts or whatever on USB devices.
  3. Could it be a lighting issue? My garage has about 144,000 lumens total in it, and it’s around 2000 lux on the workbench that the laser is on. Is it too bright for the camera?
  4. After I calibrated this time, things looked fine. But then when I go to capture overlay, it put the overlay in the wrong place on the canvas… like outside of the cutting area. I restarted LB, and now it puts in the right place, but it’s only getting a zoomed in version of the image on the bottom right corner. This seems like a bug.

Now onto the calibration questions:

  1. On the release notes page for 2.0.0, there’s a video showing someone moving the apriltags around under the camera, and Lightburn is putting a yellow square around each tag in real time. Mine doesn’t do that, it still has you place it left, right, front, back, etc. Is this a feature that didn’t make it into 2.0.0, or am I just missing where to get it to do this?
  2. My camera’s view is quite wide. When it’s telling you to put the apriltags or circles under the camera in the different spots, should I just be doing it on the laser bed, or putting it on there going all the way to the edge of the view?
  3. If going to the edge of the view, does the height of the apriltags matter? Like if I set them up on one of the side rails of the laser?
  4. I printed my tags on a sheet of 8.5x11. Do they need to be scaled to a certain dimension?
