Symbols in Console at startup whether plugged into laser or not

I use LightBurn with an xTool D1 Pro and a Cyberpower Fang laptop. Lightburn works randomly. At startup, weird symbols show up in the console. I have upgraded the connection cable, tried other versions of the software and tried alternate settings for the baud rate. I know the issue is not related to the laser because the software does the same thing even if it is not plugged into the laser. However, the issue is random. Sometimes it will just work if I wait a few hours and try again. Any other suggestions?

Which looks like crappy USB port hardware, because if the port is “receiving” random data when the cable isn’t plugged into the port, then the problem is inside the laptop.

Other than using / trying different USB ports or chanting the usual Windows USB spells, you may have a bad system board.

Thanks for the quick response. Sometimes it resolves the issue to change ports. It has been an excellent laptop, but it is old. I will look into that end of things.

facepalm that particular error was coming from a USB splitter I had plugged into the laptop. Now I am getting a slightly different error. The “Port failed” is what displayed when no USBs were plugged in. Each of the waiting messages was when I was trying the various ports or turning the laser off and back on.

“If it hurts when you do that, don’t do that!”

I think you’re back to the situation where the failure is inside the laptop. The “splitter” may have exacerbated the problem, but an empty USB port should not generate any error messages at all, under any conditions.

At this point, somebody who knows Windows 10 must explain the myriad invocations relevant to un-wedging a USB port; it’s beyond anything I know.

Thanks again. Very helpful.

I’d suggest cleaning the ports. There may be some corrosion or other debris causing the issue.

Also, is it possible you’re near a particularly noisy electrical device? I recall a situation where a misbehaved fluorescent light was causing all sorts of issues on the computer.
