you have to be in scan mode to do this with a bmp or you have to use vectors if you have an example to provide me to better understand

You can do this in either Fill mode or with an image using Threshold mode.

I’ve also just realized that the Ramp feature for images will only work if you have “Fill Shapes Individually” enabled - it doesn’t work with multi-scanned images.
