Hi everyone totally new to lasering so please bear with me. I am impressed by the lightburn support network by the way , and glad lol. I have been told to find the correct power and speed settings to cut fabric or other materials that I should run a test card? or something along those lines can someone help with this? basically I make dog clothes I used various fabrics like cotton, and heavier fabrics like harris tweed woven wool. I wanted to start with a farbric lighter then cotton and see if I can cut a template I have ready. I have seen people use test strips on youtube little squares etc but will that really work with light fabric I worry doing that might set the fabric alight if the power setting is to high? I appreciate any help people can give ,newbies must be tiresome
There is a test for materials under the ‘laser tools’.
What you wish to do is difficult, especially with a powerful laser, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it.
It doesn’t take much to cut though paper and I’m sure fabrics, you’ll have to get as low percentage that the tube will lase and adjust speed…
I make targets out of watercolor paper and I etch at 400mm/s at 12% and cut at 150@15%. There isn’t much wiggle room for adjusting.
I cut out my ‘bread’ parchment paper for loaves at 200@20%
I have a China Blue 50W that measures 44W…
Thanks Jack
I’ve been cutting out shop wipes and garden ties:
I have a (probably similar) 60 W OMTech and run those cuts at 60% PWM and 50 mm/s. My specifications for scorch marks are significantly less stringent than yours, but those numbers should get you into the right ballpark.
Painfully obvious in retrospect:
- The fabric must remain flat for good focus
- One layer at a time unless it’s really thin fabric
- Plenty of exhaust air
Happy cutting …
