Hi,
Can anybody tell me the height measurement unit in the text edit window please?
I understand all the other bits in the window but the height has me stumped.
If I add text using the Arial font, height in the window is 25 but the engraved word is only about 19mm high.
Reason I’m asking is that a friend wants me to do a sign for her at 300pt and in a particular font. (I have the font, so all good)
Mr Google says 300pt is 105mm high.
If I put 105 in the height box, the engraved text is only about 65mm high but 300 in the height box, the text is about 185mm high.
I understand that different fonts will have different heights when engraved.
I know I could draw a rectangle the correct height, put it on layer T1, and resize the text to fit.
I’m just curious to know what the height measurement unit is.
Thanks
This is what is the LightBurn says about the Height field:
- Height - Sets the overall font height. The Height property of fonts is not exact - It is generally the height of a capital letter X in the font, but every font has an internal size that is scaled by this height, and the dimensions aren’t required to be accurate.
So does not establish an absolute height. If you need to set font size to a particular it sounds like you’re better off doing that directly rather than through the height field.
In this case, using the numeric edits toolbar to set the dimensions of the text. Note that the numeric edits height field will show you the distance between the highest and lowest points of the text. If absolute size is important then you could potential normalize the height using a single letter, let’s say X, then using numeric edits to size it to 105mm tall, then edit the text to add the rest of the letters.
Thanks for your reply. It’s appreciated. (I missed that in the Height field description). I normally just resize “till it looks right” or draw a box the right height and/or length. It was something I really thought of until was asked about doing some words a particular height.
