Text is always too far to the left

Hi Team!

This issue is driving me crazy. I am engraving silicone dog Id Tags which are rather small, around 2.5cm in diameter. I have the shape and exact position of my jig saved as T1 in lightburn so I know where I am engraving. I also have lines which show me the center of the tag so i can align the designs and names I am engraving. So far so good. The designs are centered right in the middle of the tag and always come out right in the middle when I engrave them. However, when I allign the text to the middle of the tag, it is always around 2mm too far to the left. I thought I use a workaround and add another line with T2 slightly further to the right so when enrgaved, the text ends up in the middle. This doesn’t seem right though and after making hundereds if not thousands of tags, I need a proper solution .

My font is Baloo Tammudu 2. Have tried other fonts, always same result. I am running a Thunder Bolt and use a Macbook pro.

Here you can see what would happen if the text would be aligned right in the middle of the tag (tag still has ashes on it and is not cleaned :)):

Couple of questions for clarification please @Kristina2508 -
Are you also cutting out the tag at the same time?
Are you using a LightBurn camera or positioning camera?
…and as always, Operating system and LightBurn version.
Would you be willing to share your project file, if not here, consider sending it along with a detailed explanation (and a link to here) to support@lightburnsoftware.com

From what I’m understanding, you have either an issue with your work/job origin or there is some play in the tension of perhaps the belts etc on the machine you are using (Thunder Bolt Laser with Ruida?).

It might be helpful to have a step by step detailed account of your current workflow process so I can understand exactly what is happening as well as any assumptions you’ve made.

If you could include even more screenshots including your layer settings and how you have set the job origin and the start point for each job. Are you using “Send” or are you using “Start” to run the job?

Our detailed page about Co-ordinates and job origin might be useful to you.

AND you might really like the Print & Cut feature

Hi Dominic!

Thanks for your reply. I am sorry, still a beginner here ;).
No, we don’t cut the tags themselves. I have made a jig to place them into the engraver which is screwed onto the bed so it doesn’t move.

Lightburn version: LightBurn 1.7.04
Operating system: OS Venture 13.7.1

I don’t use the camera. My machine is brand new, been using it since November so I assume there shouldn’t be a mechanical fault. It got set up by a professional who sells the machines here in NZ as well. As the design is always centered but the text isn’t, I assume it is a workflow or setting issue. Thunder Bolt with Ruida, run through my home wifi via Ethernet.

Workflow process:

We have all our designs saved in the Art Library which I import into my file when I get an order in. My Text layers are already in the file, I never change the settings just delete the default “TEXT” to the dogs name. Then I center the text with Align V Center and Distribute V Center ( if more than 2 lines).
I use the Send button but was wondering why there is a start button at all? I have tried it before and it fires up the machine without pressing the start button on the laser.

Disregard, already answered

One thing you didn’t show is the laser window. That might be helpful. Did you send the file to support?

That is correct. Start does what it’s called, it starts the laser process, send, sends the file to the machine so you can start later.

Here you go!

I’ve seen you’ve sent the query to us at the help desk, so I’m going to have a good look at the file. If we find an answer I’ll be sure to bring it here too (as well as your email answer) so other people who are having a similar issue can benefit.

Perfect, thanks Dominic! Much appreciated

In the meantime chech if you have a lost space in your text box.

Already done that, it was my first idea of what it could be… But thanks for the suggestion!
